Kydex Holsters
Kydex holsters are increasingly the holster of choice for
concealed carry, duty, and sport shooting such as IPSC and IDPA. We realize
that Kydex doesn't fit every need, but it's rapid growth in popularity has
been hard-earned through it's many virtues:
- Kydex holsters have no break-in period.
It fits as perfectly the 1st time it's used as the 10,000th
time. This means not having to wet-wrap the holster or put
the gun in a plastic bag or other tricks used to loosen up
conventional holsters.
- Kydex holsters are faster on the draw.
This point may seem arguable but in IPSC / IDPA competitions, the
fastest competitors are always wearing Kydex. Excepted are
matches where nostalgia is part of the sport (SASS /
Cowboy).
- Kydex holsters are weather-proof.
Kydex holsters can be worn in the rain and do not swell up due
to sweat or humidity. In extreme cold, they do not
contract so as to fit differently.
- Kydex holsters are easier to clean and keep clean.
If your holster becomes dirty or stained it can be washed with
soap and water, detergents may be applied to it, and afterwards
it looks as good as the day it was made.
- Kydex holsters are easier to keep in storage.
It does not need to be dry-sealed in a package because it is not
susceptible to mildew, nor will a dry environment cause it to
crack or harden.
- Kydex holsters don't collapse when you draw your gun.
When you draw you gun with a kydex holster the mouth will stay open and the shape will not change. This allows a one handed re-holster from muscle memory so you do not need to take your eyes off what they are focused on.
- Kydex holsters are less expensive.
There are some very specialized and well crafted Kydex holsters
that seem pricey, but as a generalization Kydex holsters are
less expensive to purchase.
- Kydex holsters are more concealable.
The material strength of Kydex allows for greater strength with
a fraction of the thickness associated with leather concealment
holsters. A thinner holster significantly decreases
printing due to conspicuous gun shaped bulges.
- Kydex holsters are scuff and impact resistant.
Normal wear and tear won't leave the scratches and marks that
degrade the finish of leather.
